First things first...I am finally, FINALLY starting to feel a little better. Fever is gone (for good, I hope!), not coughing as much, not feeling so stuffed up, and that sinus headache is finally getting a little less intense. I stayed home from school today and..SLEPT. It was so beautiful outside, but I just slept all day. I think it might have paid off. One thing that I did do in between bouts of sleep was look through some work...mainly my monochromatic series from May...seeing the more detailed faces made me look at what I was working on now, and start thinking about how my treatment of the face in my current body of work. I think that in September I started to focus more on quick, gestural drawings when I was working on my daily, 'timed' pieces. This is also the month that I really made the connection with fashion illustration, again, focusing more on capturing the essence of the figure, the clothes, rather than the face. Eyes are my favorite thing to draw but I moved farther and farther away from facial features, especially as I got more and more excited about the fashion. And it just kind of continued...in October I started to reel myself back in, get back into more detailed work, especially in the face...then my brother got in the accident and I moved towards more stylized daily pieces again, for the most part. The fashion illustration continued to include less and less face. And now I am working specifically on fashion illustration for the month, my current work is based on photos from Oscar de la Renta's fall 2012 runway. Yesterday I started to get more detail back into the face, and today a little more, finishing up #320 while re-watching last week's Project Runway All Stars.
So... caught up and feeling a little better.

...not that any of my titles are witty, mind you, I just could not think of one today. Here are some ones that did not make the cut;
Alright, so that is why I don't have a cool title. Enjoy the slideshow below; Just wanted to make a note on a side project that I have taken on. It started with my decision to work with one color for this month...then a fleeting idea to find a blue sketchbook...the actually finding one...then the idea to fill the whole thing up with blue drawings...and so, well, I started it. The concept- fill new blue sketchbook entirely with blue drawings. (Why? Ummmm, I am working with a monochromatic color scheme this month...I chose blue, this fits my theme for the month.) It is so daunting, opening up a new sketchbook...seeing all those white pages. I think I blogged previously about all of the sketchbooks that line my shelf, each started with the same thought, 'wow- I am going to fill up this while sketchbook!'...and then...not doing that. Sigh. Which, there is nothing wrong with, but for whatever reason I like to finish things, to start from the beginning and go to the end, to use it all up..if I am making necklaces I want to keep creating til the beads are gone. If I pour paint I want to keep painting until the paint is all gone. Part of it is some sort of short-range goal setting- I feel a mini-success when I commit to sitting and beading until the beads I poured out are all used. Part of it is because I don't want to waste materials...if I pour out that paint on my palette I am going to find something to paint it on...hey, paint doesn't grow on trees. But for whatever reason, that is how I work, and I respond positively to the idea of using it all up...the pages, the paint, the beads, the pencil. So I am attempting to fill up this entire book, all 100+ pages, by the end of the month. Why? Because I am working with blue....and blue is the theme for the month...and next month will be different..and...well...I just want to. Now to figuring out just what to draw. I decided to go with whatever random thought came to my mind. Whether it be a part of a conversation, and image...just total randomness, and all in the moment. I also made the decision to limit myself to working in 10 minute increments...that way no one drawing becomes too precious, and that should help me get these all done. Interestingly enough, I think this may the birthplace for paintings and drawings in the future, based on what I created this morning...shown in the slideshow below, which shows my CED #140 and the first of the 10-minute blue drawings..enjoy. But blue it is! (The Creative Every Day theme for May.) Well...the theme is 'One', but I thought about it...discussed with my trusted inner circle and decided that I would interpret 'One' as 'One Color', aka 'monochromatic'. I am going to use one color and the tints, tones and shades of that color this month as I continue to work in my portraiture series, which seems to be what I like to draw the best. Heck, I will say it- that IS what I like to draw. FACES. Love it. Blue it is. The only thing I have to be blue about is the weather...ugh. Boo. Hiss. Other than that... My students are rocking out, making some amazing art...only about three weeks of 'work time' left so we are going to be going into overdrive. I am going to be writing a column for my friend's art magazine...more to come. Tomorrow I hope to sit down and finish my Magic Hat painting. I just found out about another art show today...ocean-themed...hope I can participate! Oh yeah, and CED #123 is done. |
