...a peek at the first six pieces in the series...need to take the final pics and post...but in the meantime...here they are in partial view... ...and...this just in...breaking MUSE NEWS!!!!
I was just invited back to be the featured artist for the May 2014 Downtown Hollywood ArtWalk at Muzart Studios! (if you missed my first show featuring selected works from 2013...ummmm...Tina liked it so much that she has kept the work up...stop by and see!) I am so excited! For the May ArtWalk I will reveal the final versions of my April 2013 portrait paintings inspired by poetry. More details to come!!! ...busy, busy, BUSY weekend! I managed to throw in some artistic happenings in the midst of all of the graduation festivities, it was tough but I pulled it off! Angels...I managed to #angeldrop just a few pieces when we went to Hollywood Beach with my father-in-law, Raffaele. He and John were walking ahead of me, not paying attention as I left angels here and there. On the walk back to the car he saw one, picked it up and exclaimed, 'this looks like something Jenny would make!' in his thick Italian accent. John and I just burst out laughing...cause I did make it! We explained to him about the angels and how I leave them for people to find. He started to put the angel back and then he said, 'no, I found it!' And he kept the angel paintings. Finders keepers! Decorative ladies...I have been working on the new pieces, so far so good. My third and fourth pieces in the series include references to the Catholic church, mainly the rosary...I was thinking about the paint class I taught at St. Juliana in West Palm Beach. I was contacted through a mutual friend about teaching this class so I drove up Sunday afternoon and worked with a small group on an image of the Madonna and Child for Mother's Day. They were a fun group!
The biggest news by far is that my husband, John, just graduated from his PhD program at Florida Atlantic University. It has been a long, hard journey but he is finally done and I am so amazed by him and this huge accomplishment. His mom was not physically here, she was definitely there in spirit watching over what was a perfect day with family. She would be so proud. Late Wednesday night, I finished up my final piece in the April series. I still need to go back into the red triptych and add words written by my friend Gin, my muse and the inspiration behind the piece. For the last piece I attempted my own poetic words, You elude me (painting) but I will continue in the pursuit I am not quite finished with this series. I want to look at each piece again, add a little extra touch if needed, paint the sides, maybe some clear coat to protect the conte crayon scribbles. Part of my wants them to be more 'finished' (if that even exists) but part of me also wants the painting to have that essence of the day I made it. My daily pieces are very much a diary for me, at least in that I can remember what I was doing that day and what was going through my head when I made the piece. Just for fun...I attempted to take a picture of all the pieces out in the hall...it is hard to see them all. I tried to set a timer to get a picture of my down the hall by the final painting just to show scale...but when I ran by the pieces...the air from me running by made them fall...liked painting-dominos. #artistproblems ...I gave up and just took a group photo of the works in the stairwell. This is all of my work from April 2014, with the exception of three paintings that I gave to our friend Justin in Nashville, TN. ...and now...the new series for May 2014. The suggested theme from the Creative Every Day site is 'Decoration', which immediately appealed to me. I thought of two of my favorite artists, Alphonse Mucha and Gustav Klimt and my own love for embellishment...and it was a no brainer, this would be my theme for the month, too. So here is the first piece. Pen on paper, Mucha-style hair, my style face, circle motif...and, per usual...no idea where this will go but I am excited to see the series emerge! |
