Afternoon painting in the kitchen So...May Self Portrait...all done. I had the idea for this because there is a mirror right by where I sleep and when I wake up sometimes I see myself and think how out of control my hair is and how I need to get a hair cut…but I never do. I really struggled with this piece. Started working on it the other week and it just wasn’t coming together. Even today when I was working…I painted and repainted the nose and mouth so many times…until…finally…it started to work. I worked on this piece in a new location, at our friends’ place here in Wilmington. I spent the whole day here at their place working on art and it was exactly what I wanted to do today. They have a large table where I worked on my CEDs and the angel paintings, and then another small breakfast nook area with really good light, right by a window. It was a good day, and night, because Elizabeth and I both painted more after dinner. And...the angel paintings are done. Black lines added, little hints of shimmer...all placed inside the frames, ready to be packed and shipped off tomorrow, probably from Greenville. I think that would be easier for me since I know my way around there and know where the post offices are. I even had a guest art critic check out my work, 'Tubs' the cat. Seemed somewhat interested until distracted by a shadow. I will take that as a positive review.
