The last time Friday the 13th rolled around it was my last day of 'normal' teaching, and I didn't know it- March 13th. Fellow educators, students, parents- it has been a wild ride, but we are gonna get through this!  Literally. Like, I painted on the walls at my principal's request.  New state...new because I have been in FL for eleven years, but I am originally from here, just not Wilmington. New age group...new because I have been teaching high school for the past seven years, and middle school the four years before that...but I was actually teaching elementary school art before I moved to FL. New way of teaching...we are 100% remote due to Covid, which unfortunately is not entirely 'new' because that is how I had to teach March-May at LWHS. What is new is that rather than 'crisis teaching' which is what teachers across the world were really doing, I (we) had some time to prepare for teaching this way.  The walk to my new classroom. This school really is basically brand new, they were only open in this building for a few months before the pandemic closed schools last year. Mrs. Parsons, the old teacher, left some great art posters so I kept them (THANK YOU, SARAH!) I went with a 'watercolor' theme for the room. Found SO MANY cute things at Oriental Trading com, which is what gave me the idea. I even ordered another set of the paint backgrounds to play around with.  After coming in every day and picking the posters up off the floor after they fell overnight I FINALLY found something to keep them up, it's a wax and it works. OMG, so glad I finally found something. (got it off Amazon)  Another view of the room Also, due to teaching 100% remote first nine weeks I have a set up in my storage closet for recording my lessons and doing my live Zooms with the kids. I have the same set up at home for days when I work from home AND another one for if I am not at home.  (From left to right) Virtual teaching set up in my storage closet...home set up...'classroom on the go bag', which contains another backdrop, tape, table cloth, art supplies, lighting and fits my school laptop....and ME  Even if it's virtual, teaching art is what I love. Thanks for my card, Nehemie! Alright class of 2020...we're gonna make SOMETHIN' happen for ya'll...not sure what, but we are working on it!    The stores may be closed but my art supply closet at home isn't...so I made ya'll some goody bags! Will be delivering these soon!  This virtual teaching ain't no joke, folks!! When I'm not working on lessons, responding to emails/texts/DMs, in a meeting or grading i am photographing artwork and delivering artwork and supplies. I can't wait for summer!  Don't worry kids...Blud and I are still meeting to plan for this nine weeks! |
