So...after the usual nap...I was up and ready to take advantage of the amazing weather.  (A big THANK YOU to Jennifer and Jake Moffitt for the awesome table! Now I can draw on the balcony without dragging a bunch of stuff in and out!)  Good light, nice breeze, some Avett Brothers playing in my ears...and, well...CED #113 AND 114 came to me.

CEDs 113-114...created on our 'new' table out on the balcony
Looking through the series, I am concerned that I abandoned the literal 'sweets' imagery and light colors too soon...the last week's worth of work is really, well, dark.  But I feel that the facial structure/exaggeration is consistent, as is the curvilinear line in the hair...hopefully that is enough to hold the theme.  Only seven more new pieces in the series...got to bring it back full circle and relate some of the original imagery or move on to a next step...not sure what I will do as of right this second.

Finished and framed.
Another artistic happening around here today, I prepped Paul's piece and put it in the frame.  (this is my $2 frame, folks)  Love.  I love the way a piece changes when you mat or frame it.  It's like some kind of transformation.  I wish I had the means to mat/frame everything I create.

Since the weather was so nice, I dragged my work all over, looking for the just the right backdrop for a final picture.  It was a little windy, but I did find a good spot by the pool area, and despite the pesky reflection the picture came out pretty good.  So that's it.  Just have to deliver the work.

And get started on the rest of my projects.  I have to complete my Star Wars paintings this week, and my entry for the Magic Hat Art Contest due to delivering them to Coral Springs this weekend.  Gotta figure out what I am doing with the remaining CEDs for April (maybe I will set up a suggestion box...) and work on my monthly self-portrait, which will revisit all of the things I have worked on this month.  But for now, gonna run.  Literally.

And...today in pictures...

So...most of my day was a wash with doctor's appointments.  Nothing wrong, just dentist and eye appointments.  I don't mind waiting as much anymore now that I keep my sketchbook with me, drawing makes the time go by so much faster.  So...below are my pics from around 5pm showing the projects for the evening...just some CED's that I have started and need to finish up, and then that big ol' painting that has been torturing me on a daily basis. It is self-imposed, just me feeling guilty for not finishing it sooner.  But sometimes...well, sometimes art has to wait...
...so about an hour and a half went by and then...
...and I will probably post again later after I work on my CEDs and the big portrait...but for now, it's a small celebration here at casa de Gironda : )

Feelin' pretty tired...just in case I don't do any more work tonight, here is the update...

I decided it was time I came to some resolution on this large painting (left) so I started working on it late this afternoon and stopped around 10pm.  I added more black outline...I love black outline...makes me think of stained glass...and I pushed the faces back by adding some brown wash over the surface, they just seemed to stand out too much, I wanted them to flow a little more with the tree, to be a little more hidden.

I want to add some addition black line work, and small strokes of color.  And some small glints of gold.

I was pinning images to my Pinterest Boards earlier, focusing on the 'Inspiration' board.  I am still deciding how I will use this tool in my work, for now it seems to be a good way to gather images together in one place, to save physical space and also paper.  The images I pinned today were mostly artists who I think are awesome, mostly mixed media artists since that is my focus for this month. This is a whole different world for me, so these visuals really help to give me ideas.

And of course I had to pin some of my influences from art history, such as Gustav Klimt and Alphonse Mucha.  I found this AMAZING close-up of Klimt's piece entitled, Water Serpents (1904-1907) and fell in love with the gold line work...and the fact that it is actually slightly raised from the surface.  Hmmmmmm.... that could be an idea for my large painting I am working on...

Have paper will draw!
...other projects for this week;
  • My CED's, of course...hoping I can get a little braver and start to experiment a little more, but stay true to my aesthetic
  • Paul's commission...I finally found a big enough piece of paper, gonna have to use the whole kitchen table for this one...this piece is going to be a pencil drawing with watercolor/pen for the hair, in the style of Mucha (hence, the posting of his piece above)
  • Going through random piles of crap here and there.  Not necessarily an art-related goal, but it needs to be done.  Ugh.
  • Launching a new web-site and FB page for what I hope becomes a cool art happening... More to come...
  • A visit to the classroom of fellow Tipsy Art Girl and fabulous MS art teacher, Jessie Prugh...
  • ...and lot's of naps, hanging by the pool and spending time with the husband!

...commission #1...in the mail and en route to Sterling, VA!  CED # 67...in progress...not going to worry about trying to finish that tonight, going to get some rest.

So it is the first day of March.  I am excited about the new CED theme, mixed media.  Wrote a few comments about it in the my blog dedicated this endeavor...

Got a little side-tracked today...haven't decided the direction for the series yet, leaning towards starting with some small pieces, those 4x4 canvases were a good size for the pieces I created in February.  Then of course there are my random figurative pieces...it would be smart to just blend the two together, right?  And add in the next ANE theme...Edgar Allan Poe...lot's to think of...

Instead of officially starting my series...because I am still figuring it out...

I painted some wine glasses for a gift...and started a sketch.

So, I was creative after all.  It is almost like I felt guilty for not knowing the next direction my work will take.  Ummm...so posting these pics made me feel a little better.

...rambling on...oh, yeah...it's Youth Art Month!!  Yay Art!  My 8th graders helped me set up a display and some YAM signnage this morning...this is in addition to the art that is already all over the school.  Wall = A place that needs my student's art!!  (display shown below)

Oh yes, just remembered to post the pics below, these are from the weekend.  I created some custom paintings for a friend's nursery.  They just sent the pics of the finished paintings back home in NC, displayed in the window.  I love those block canvases, you can hang them on the wall, stack them.  Very versatile.

...and they sent a pic of one of my owl paintings.  I changed the color of the tie to go with the colors in the nursery.  (left)

So...wow.  Talk about stream of consciousness.

...and finally...side note, why can't I ever get to sleep before
11:30pm?  Just sayin'..

Okay...I have ceased making sense and having any structure...must...go...to...SLEEP!

...all done with these...sparkles are glued down...and they are off on the long journey to Hawaii...hope she likes them!
