...I am getting settled in my new classroom at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School and in my new school and I gotta say- I low key kinda LOVE it!! I am no stranger to a classroom makeover (it's actually my jam) so ya'll know I am gonna share some before and after pics here! Already feels like home!

Despite MOVING (yes, again...I know, I know...) I was able to fit in a few DIY projects...a headband (mouse ear) holder I saw on-line using a paper towel roll as a base (!) , a photo display from a clearance frame and some string, and my favorite- 'THEE WALL OF WILLIE'....'cause I had so much fun and I want to remember it! Also, this counted as an 'extended artist date' for me, so even better!
In honor of our 18 year wedding anniversary I went out of order with my Barbie-inspirations from my 2014 series and skipped the last one so I could do a bridal gown. ...we had a great day! Fancy lunch in north Miami followed by a sleep coma (aka nap)...and then a nice walk at Hollywood Beach with stops for drinks at Margaritaville, slices of pizza and ice cream cones. The long walk in the heat and humidity at least made us not feel as bad about our snacks! Definitely the perfect ending to our day.
Cue Boys II Men music, 'cause it's so haaaaard to say goodbyyyyyye....y'all see where I am going. Gonna miss this place so much. I wish it could have worked out where we could stay in Gardens, but the commute to NSU is just not working and John's health is more important...plus, I will just get settled and start something new when we get to Dania Beach. So, time to move- AGAIN. The last week was a blur. I still wanted to make the most of my studio space, so I was in there every day, usually in the mornings. Had some last minute visitors, like my friends Quinn and Ricky (did an art trade!)...artist friends dropping off treasures (Thanks Teresa!) My studio for the most part was my one place of normalcy- because at home it was was boxes. John and I got in some last minute fun, like tacos and margs at Rocco's (they have one down in Fort Lauderdale, but we just love the one in PBG) I was able to fit in some morning trips to Juno Beach to watch sunrise and the cats just napped wherever there was an empty space and ignored our chaos. I kept my studio right up til the day before we moved. Not gonna lie, I was definitely sad leaving that special place. I am working on studio space down south but it might be a little bit. I hope that when I do get one it is as amazing as my spot at ZES and my artist family there. While all of the moving stuff was going on we also family in from out town- John's sister and our nieces. They stayed down the road at Aunt Nancy's, but we were able to slip away and see them some in between bursts of packing- even got a little art time with the kiddos!
I think most of ya'll know that I have been doing the whole 'Artist's Way' thing for I guess two years now- since 2021 when we were living in Wilmington, NC. The district offered professional development credit for a course based on reading the book, doing the morning pages, the artist date and a series of 'Weekly Check-Ins'...I started it, got the credit and just kept on going. I still get up extra early every day to write my three pages, I can't remember how many journals I have finished, it's over 10 (too lazy to to get up and go count)...I 'check in' with myself at the end of each week to see my progress on different goals, etc. And I try to make time for an 'Artist Date' each week. Some weeks I do a better job than others. This week- I really had a full dedicated day because I tagged along with my husband to his conference and had the whole day to myself at the hotel. Dinner date with John the night before, then while he was at his conference the day was all mine! Morning pages, reading by the pool, a lil' field trip to the mall. I got a chance to check out the Young at Art space, and see the Broward Art Educator's Association show, and finally, get coffee and sketch in my journal at Barnes and Noble. It was a good day. |
