May Theme...'One'

5/31/2012

I checked the Creative Every Day Blog last night before I went to bed and saw that the theme for the month is 'One'.  After sleeping on it for the night, asking a few folks what they thought (thanks John, Jess and Sid)...I have decided to go with the idea of one color, or monochromatic pieces for this  series.  My images have been pretty consistent, still working with female faces with a heavy Mucha influence...hopefully staying with one color will maintain some of the consistency that I lost in the last series of work.  Stay tuned...

May 16, Update...still keepin' it blue.  I was thinking that I may start to gradually add in some watercolor, maybe even some Prisma Color Marker...not sure yet.  The last few pieces have used two Prisma Color pencils in two shades of blue, a little colorless blender, a little white here and there and some mark-making with this awesome teeny tiny sheer glitter pen that I love...just a hint of sparkle.  Still working with the female motif...thought about maybe starting to accessorize....not sure yet.

May 31...all done.  Looking through the series, I definitely think it has a cohesiveness, due to the monochromatic color scheme (except for that one red heart) and because of the reoccurring imagery of the female face.  Also in the last half of the month, I started to play around with using some 'messy' line in with the tight rendering, and I do like the juxtaposition of the two. The last four drawing especially are more like sketches than finished drawings.  I would like to push this idea more, except up the quality of the tight rendering more so that the sketched, looser areas will seem more free by comparison.  So that is one thing that I would like to continue exploring.  I enjoyed working with the monochromatic palette and I feel that is a good 'safe' place for me to revisit.  I got a few ideas for paintings and more drawings from some of these pieces and, well, the whole process of working within these blue drawings this month was very calming for me.
