Another (Fashion!) Camp in 'da books!

I finished up a really great week of fashion camp the week before last and I know it's late but I really wanted to post at least a little bit about the experience...mainly in response to interest from fellow art teachers.

My end game here, nothing really.  I hope that this post is informative...and at the very least entertaining for anyone that  might stumble across it!  I have always enjoyed teaching art camps at the Armory Art Center (I actually met one of my dearest friends in the process!) but I think you will see, it really is the fashion-themed camps that I love teaching the most!

Before I get into the week of upcycled/recylced fashion fun I wanted to give a little intro about my years teaching summer art camps at the Armory.  I knew I had been teaching these for a while but when I sat down I realizes that I have taught 7 summers there- wow!

I won't get into a lengthy diatribe...but I WILL post some pics if you are interested with a short description, but first, let me mention;

DISCLAIMER:  Art teacher friends- please feel free to take any of the project ideas that you see!  I could probably scare up the 'lesson plan' but...ummm...I'm on summer break so...maybe just take the idea and make it your own, mmm'kay?

Okay...here are some past summer art camp pics, from 2010-2016;
(The only summer I missed was 2014, I took a vacation from doing any teaching that summer!)

Okay, so you can see what I have been up to over at the Armory during past summers...which brings me to the camp that I just finished up, and really the reason that I am posting this whole thing in the first place...and if there are any art teachers that are interested in having a fashion camp, or maybe incorporating some upcycled/recycled projects into your curriculum, feel free to use any of the ideas here.

Ya'll, I seriously LOVE teaching fashion anything, it gives me LIFE!

I created a slideshow below with pics from the week of 'Upcycled Fashion' that I just finished.  I will also post a link to my 'lesson plan' (HERE IT IS!  CLICK HERE!!) but I just want to tell you...this is based off the template that the Armory sent to me...and I intentionally kept it short and sweet.  Take what you want, make it your own.  I am never bothered when folks ask for information about a lesson or project, but honestly- I feel like you always have to make it your own in some way.  For me, the way that I teach at camp and in my high school classroom is through a 'meeting' where I share a technique or example...then I like to give a rundown of all the things to be completed- but I leave it up to the student to determine what he/she will complete first.  It's not exactly TAB, it's not exactly DBA, there is some 'Choice'...my main thing is 'ABC'- 'Always Be Creating'.  I don't know if that's a 'thing', but it's my 'thing', it works for me, my personality and my students enjoy it and flourish inside of this format so...I do what works for me, and my students.  You do you...but feel free to use any of these ideas!

Also, please note that the majority of my materials for this fashion camp came from my beloved Resource Depot.  If you are a Palm Beach County Art Teacher and you didn't know about this amazing place...go and get a membership ASAP!  It's awesome!!!
