Teaching art camp at the Armory Art Center this week...the theme is AMAZING ASIA! For starters, props to Matt Fiske on his awesome clay zodiac sculpture project...the kids are so excited! The forms are based off clay pinch pots...you gotta try this! I guess that makes me the 2D person? Yeah, okay. I basically modified some of the 6th grade lessons that I came up with this year...one thing I love about art, you can 'bump' lessons/concepts up or down to work with any grade level! Below are some pics from the week so far...we spent some time talking about darumas, the kiddos made a 2D daruma collage and we have 3D darumas to finish up tomorrow...chinese lanterns out of regular ol' construction paper dressed up with some textures...shodo banners (you can't tell from the one shown, but each student picked a word to draw in kanji and then illustrated) and my the kimono project with a twist- pictures of the artist in the kimono, like they are wearing it!
