Two more finished projects Camp is all done! We finished up the last of the projects...the henna hands from our 'trip' to India...and the silly dragons from our study of China. One thing that I did on the last day that I really feel worked was to have the students create a 'passport' to show what they learned during the week. They love texture plates, so they 'texturized' a piece of 9x12 blue construction paper. One of the best things about working summer camps at the Armory is they make sure each teacher has interns and volunteers, so I am able to 'be all over' the room and I have help with prep...love! Janina, one of my volunteers (total rockstar, by the way!) Added two sheets of paper, folded and stapled the passports while the kids were on break. Then, she added the passport template and a picture of each student. Next, I led the group in 'labeling' the booklets;
Each student then drew pictures of something that we learned about each place, or of one of their art projects from the country. Once they were done they came up one at a time (again, the beauty of teaching camp) and told me about their pages. This was an easy way to access what they got from the week...which projects had more staying power...just general project assessment, but much more fun! Once they went over their passports, each page was 'stamped' and they were upgraded to 'world traveler' and able go back to their seat and draw (whatever they wanted) on that first blank page. Another plus for this final informal assessment/project...I told the students that they were to 'fill in' the information listed on the passport with their parents when they went home. This will allow the parents to see what their children learned. Plus, it's just fun! Here is a sample of the finished passport (below)
