... just a moment to remember someone very important that passed away on this date. Lucy Gironda, my mother in law, mother to John and Maria, wife to Raffaele, sister to Nancy, Tom and Vinny....sister-in-law, cousin, friend. You will never be forgotten.

Okay, so start at the top left...that's is the beginning of my work session, guess that was about four hours ago.
SELF PORTRAIT 1: Struggling with one of the self portraits I did from a photo John took (did this one last night while watching tv)...kept revising it... SELF PORTRAIT 2: I started this portrait today at school...kids liked this one better, said it looked more like me, even with the exaggerated eyes...so hard to get everything symmetrical, but then again, my face isn't symmetrical...end result, a portrait that looks somewhat like me (?) that is heading down to a show in Ft. Lauderdale (will post more info later with better pics)... RANDOM FACE...this face is one I started today while getting a pedicure...saw it in magazine so I started to draw it and then change it up, distort the eyes, scale down the nose and mouth...and this one is finished and framed, ready for the same show... SELF-PORTRAIT, PROFILE VIEW...this is another one I started last night while watching tv...I think it is my best option out of the ones I completed, it works best for the next step...I started working on a background inside the back of a wooden panel...still alot to do, but its a solid start. CENTER PIC...shows the grouping of works from the evening, displayed randomly, much like the way I worked on them...included the commission for Paul that I am tweaking, worked on the eyes some tonight...and as for my CEDs...I didn't work on those as much. Guess I have my work cut out for me tomorrow! So I am almost at the end of the month...working on CEDs 89-91...gonna be in one piece, a triptych. I had saved this cool sparkly box from Sephora back in December...I somehow knew it was destined to be art. And now it is, well, in progress anyhow. I still have much more work to do, but here is the progress for this evening as I worked; Also, CED #88 is dry and in the shadow box frame. Here is what the finished combination of pieces #87 and 88 look like; Lastly...what I am about to start working on (right)...my self portrait for the month...I like the wooden panel that I used last month, so I am revisiting it this month. Not sure where I am going with this, John took some photos today...just gonna start drawing and see what happens. Will I distort my own features? Not sure. Will I use the mandala and continue to include influence from iconography? Yeah, maybe. Will it be sparkly? You bet. So these creations were waiting on my desk when I got to school. I felt like major poop but this did brighten my day. Thanks, 5th graders! ...after battling some major headaches and a urges to throw up (hey, I'm just sayin') I had to stay late for parent conferences...which would usually make for a long day (Hey, I who am I kidding? It was still a long day!)...I managed to finish up my CEDs. (well, with a little art/tv time at home, too) These last pieces are taking me a little longer...drawing the figures is the easy part...it's the painting of the shadow boxes, etc...gluing down rhinestones and sequins, painting, collaging...and just figuring out what to do...that is what is taking so long. So anyways...here are the long awaited (at least by me) CEDs for Day 85-88; Going to try to sleep and not stay up thinking of what I will do for the last 3...it just so happens I have a cool tri-fold box...hmmmm...triptych? Sounds about right to me.
Wait...I need to complete my self portrait for this month, too! Aughhhhhh!!!! About getting sick, I mean. Came home early, ate, slept for 5 hours. Got up...ate, painted the shadow boxes... tired...went back to sleep. I just went in the kitchen a few minutes ago, was going to work on these. Got as far as cutting out the faces and then...done. I think it would be wise to take some meds, drink some juice and call it a night at this point. I beat myself up because I create the self-imposed pressure to create a specific piece every single day, when in fact, the challenge is to do something creative every day...sigh. Going to take a step back be satisfied that I made it to school half of the day, worked on the pieces for a little bit and just hope that I feel better tomorrow.
Getting sick. Lovely. Going to sleep...this is what is in the works (below)...will have to wait til tomorrow to work on them again.
Action packed weekend. I somehow ended up short one CED...I did create a new drawing today, it is an idea for next month....but I don't want to post that one yet...it doesn't go with the current pieces so I will keep it under wraps and just double up tomorrow. But anyways...here some work from this weekend; My new business cards...so fancy! And another art-related event/happening...my business cards came in from Moo. It was more than I have ever paid for business cards...but I think it was worth it. The first thing I did was open the package and lay them all out. I have 50 different designs...and the majority of the pieces were created since January...and I didn't even use all of them. Kind of cool. I also got the pics off Jessie's camera from the Square Show at Bear and Bird a couple of weeks ago, going to try to post those maybe tomorrow. Side note...might have to retake the CED pics...lighting doesn't really capture the sparkle from the jewels... Per usual...the day after the ANE show...not as awesome as the night before. Definitely feeling it today, but that is what coffee is for. Made it through the day with my students...sixth grade is finishing up their darumas, seventh worked on their Pop Art Logo Painting (which, coincidentally is the next ANE theme!) and my new 5th graders got a great start on their portfolios...yeah, somehow I managed to not only stay awake today but actually teach and get some other things done. Wow. And then...the thirty minute commute home. The sunlight in the car. The view of...well, not much. As soon as I got home, I crashed. Naptime. Luckily my cat Scooter is always down to take a nap, so I had a partner in crime. I started my CED #82 today. Not sure what direction I will go with the remaining pieces. On one hand...I am finished with the show, so I can start to venture out from the black cats and ravens that have haunted my pieces this month. However, I do want to have at least 1-2 pieces that transition into the remaining days of March...so, yeah, not sure where I am going with this. And I am not going to worry about trying to finish it tonight. Going to get some sleep and look at it again tomorrow. I might not try to finish #s 82-83 right away, might just start the figure, per usual...then wait and see what happens. So anyway...those are some of the thoughts swimming around in my head...as for the event last night...amazing. So cool to be a part of this monthly live art event. I made a slideshow...enjoy! (...and I felt like the Halloween template fit the best...try to ignore the jack-o-lanterns and focus on the scary BLACK CAT!) Special thanks to Teresa Korber for putting on these events... Angela Tronick for pictures and being so fun...My husband for being my #1 fan/critic/EVERYTHING... Jessie, for being awesome...the 'Prugh Crew' for always coming out to support us at these events...Ash and Estefania for coming out to the show and hanging out...I don't always take time to say thank you but I hope all of you know I appreciate you!!
The show was fun! I am tired. Will blog about it tomorrow! (...finished my CED #81 at the event!)
