I am fortunate to live in what I know to be an arts-rich area, and there are so many opportunities right here in my own backyard to participate in art shows. Two of my favorite local venues are Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery in downtown Lake worth and Slushbox Gallery, which is part of Ink and Pistons Tattoo shop in West Palm Beach. First up...CGMS!When I first started working at LWHS four years ago, one of the first things my colleague Brent did was show me where the grub was in the 'L-Dub'...and also introduce me to some of the local folks in the art scene. By far, one of the most lasting impacts of that has been my relationship with Joyce over at Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery. I have scooped her up and dragged her to my school to look at my kiln, emailed and texted her (and she always responds to my crazy clay questions!), supported her grant writing efforts (which have benefited LWHS art students!), been fortunate to not only participate in her shows (and my students, too!) and have even had three shows there at the gallery with Brent. Joyce is tiny in stature but has a huge impact and really has made a difference in my life, and in the local arts community. She is an advocate for the arts and social issues and I love that lady- and CGMS! I realized that I forgot to post about the 'Cat' themed show that I participated in as I was uploading pics from the 'Day(s) of the Dead' show, so I am including those here, too. The best part is that for BOTH shows I had several students participate, too! For many of them this was their first gallery show- which is awesome. When I was in high school there not opportunities like this for me, being from a small town...so it feels great to help make this happen for some of my fav lil' artists! CGMS October Art Shows!Next up, Slushbox Gallery at Ink and Pistons Tattoo Shop!I was trying to remember when I came into the same orbit of Amanda and J.R. Linton. I am not sure if it was through Art Hive or from one of my shopping excursions at Amanda's fun indie craft events. Who knows. All I know is several shows, many vegan cupcakes, and my beloved wrist tattoo later- I really dig these two folks. The Ink and Pistons side is always super clean and creative, and the Slushbox Gallery side always has a fun show up and waaaaay too much stuff that I want to buy in the sales area. Any time I get to show in their gallery I am super excited and really humbled. The artists in their shows are some of the best in the area. WOW. I'm verklempt. Allow me to express my adoration in this here collage; |
