#LoveStruckLoveSucksJLG...complete!

Well...my February 2017 series has come and gone.  I feel that as a grouping the pieces are cohesive and for the most part, when viewed sequentially they 'read' they way I intended.  My narrative for the first half of the month was to have a big-eyed gal completely enamored with LOVE.  She represents the 'love struck' portion of the series title. Within the first fourteen days I allowed myself to go off on a tangent or two...from beauty queens to chocolate and pizza...heck, I even threw in an extra piece to celebrate the Super Bowl, just for fun!

February 1-14th...and an extra piece for the Super Bowl
But then...February 14th came and went, and it was time to take things to the dark side.  It was time for the 'love sucks' portion of the series! February 15th I started using more gray and blacks in my daily pieces to illustrate a different mood. These facial expressions were more expressive, ranging from nonchalant, to skeptical, confused and sad just to name a few.

February 15-26th...
But I couldn't end on a sad note so in the second to last piece I transitioned into the beginnings of a happier piece, I split the background gray and red and then showed her 'peeking' with one eye...like she was saying, 'hey, is it safe for LOVE again?!'  As for the last piece, she's happy again.  She picked up a tattoo along the way, and learned to put a band-aid on those broken hearts and to  'keep it moving'.

Oh, and case you are wondering- the banner on her tattoo reads, 'SELF' because that is she knows that in the words of 'Mama Ru';

...as for my March series...ummmm...finalizing that idea...stay tuned!

A tale of angels, Brain Cancer Awareness and CHALK!

So I made this batch of angels a while back...I didn't know at the time where these gals would go but I knew I wanted them have a February vibe...
Picture
...then Saturday I went to a baby shower for my dear friend Angela and I heard some of our friends talking about the local Brain Cancer Walk happening the next day and I knew- some of the angels needed to be 'dropped' at this event.

So I finished them up that night, got up early to package them and made my way over to leave them at the Survivor's tent before the event started.

...had some friends participating in the event that helped to make sure that the angels found homes!
Next up I was off to the Street Painting Festival to drop more angels and to see what the artists came up with.  I was actually going to participate this year-submitted my paperwork and everything.  However, this whole corneal ulcer thing made me think twice about being out in the sun when my eye is sensitive to light...and all that chalk dust...nope.  But I did make it out on the first day to take pics and drop off water and snacks for my colleague, Brent, and the LWHS kids that were participating.

And on Sunday, I also dropped off angels for folks to find!  Here are a few pics from the event, and angels of course!

I don't always know who finds my angels. Sometimes folks tag me on IG or contact me...but that's not why I do it.  But I gotta say- when someone does let me know that they found one of my angels it is always a great feeling...and double that feeling of joy when it's one of my former students that is the 'angel finder'!!

Congrats to my Fashion Club president on winning an 'Honorable Mention' at our regional Scholastic Arts and Writing Competition! This was her first real artistic undertaking and certainly her first attempt at a 'recycled runway' piece...not bad, huh?!

The two images above sum up the past 24 hours of my LIFE.  Seriously.  I had already planned on taking my girls to 'the dark side' for the second half of the month (hence the 'Love Sucks' portion of the theme title) but...it does kinda suck right now!  Gotta an eye issue and I have to wear my glasses til...not sure AND it hurts somethin' awful.

Nooooooooooo!

Okay, going to turn off the lights, put in my too-expensive eye drops and pout.

Love Struck...Love Sucks!

Whoa!!!  'She said love sucks!'

Why...yes I did!  But allow me to explain...I decided to give in to my love for holidays and use Valentine's Day as the inspiration for this month's series...I mean, I have done a 'Valentine's Day' theme EVERY February for the past five year- why stop now...oh, hey, here is a re-cap in case you wanna see 'em (click on the image to view the series);
...but for this month- I wanted to think of something different, at least a lil' different for this year.  As I was looking back through some pics I can across this image;
Picture
...which reminded me of the event that we were headed to that day...
Picture

...that was back when Jess was still teaching.  I was at teaching art at IMS
(Go Thunderbirds!)  We were so crazy...okay, we still are, but we were REALLY crazy then!  We would participate in these fun group art shows...which entailed making all kinds of 'themed' art for an event...schleping our wares to downtown West Palm Beach after a long day of teaching (usually in some crazy/scandalous outfits)...selling art and talking to folks til 1:30-2am...packing up, driving home...and getting up at 5:30 to make the drive to our respective schools for another full day of teaching art.

In hindsight, we should have bought stock in those energy drinks that kept us going...but that is neither here nor there.  It is the THEME of that particular show, 'Love Struck, Love Sucks' that caught my attention.

That will be my theme this month!

My plan is to spend the first half of the month 'love struck'.  From February 1-14th, its all about LOVE. But after that...things may get a little dark...well...not 'William Butler' dark...but like...black glitter dark. (insert evil laugh...that ends in a goofy snort)

Right now the work is graphitone, colored pencil and marker...but that may change.  Anyway, here are the first two pieces;
