...a little Monday for ya...this...yep, this here was my day...teachin', artin' and coachin'...and now...nappin!
...just some pics from today...I woke up early, too early (per usual)...tiptoed into Jessie's awesome art room and began setting up my work area. Five 18x24 fashion illustrations later (added some color to these images from the Harper's Bazaar that I received yesterday as a gift) a small burst of crazed organization with Jess... then I headed home. Did some cleaning, took a nap with my in-house nap club (aka Mackie and Scooter) and then it was time to pick up John from the airport. When I was editing my pictures to post tonight I realized that I already had 31 of these images created- that's more than the daily pieces, which are only up to 23 for the month...and I didn't even start this side project at the first of the month. I feel like I have really found what I love, and now I am just playing. I would like to practice my speed so that I could maybe sit in on some live fashion shows and sketch. Now that...that would be amazing. For now, will just keep pouring over these images that I see in the magazines and on-line and keep sketchin'.
And I finished up my CED #267...going down to 4 minutes this week. Kind of tough on the small format that I chose, but I don't like to switch sizes because then I will fixate on the fact that the sizes don't match...so...will just keep the small format. ...still trying to make NYC happen for the coming weekend...it might be a longshot, and I am certain that it is one of my hair brained ideas...but I can see my feet walking in the city, heading to see that show at the Whitney...fingers crossed I can make that happen. For now, just mentally preparing for another week. I might even try to go to sleep before 11pm!!! Busy, wonderful- no wait, FABULOUS day. Seriously. I headed out this morning for Giselle's bridal shower and when I met up with my art friend Jess (also my business partner in Tipsy Art, the mastermind behind Art Hive Magazine, a fellow middle school art teacher and my inspiration)...she had a surprise for me. Homegirl had some fashion magazines and a book on figure poses for illustrating fashion, a gift from her and fellow Art Hive gal Angela. Seriously? Done. I was done. Someone lock me in a room so I can read these from cover to cover and ingest all of the imagery and information inside these pages. Thanks, ladies! But wait...couldn't lock myself away...had places to be! First stop, the bridal shower...and it was beautiful! Then Jerry's Artarama to check out their Teachers' Play Date event...got a chance to experiment with a cool product...nap...and then a birthday party...back to Jessie's to finish CED #266 and announce the results from our first official Art Hive contest... And now, up late posting this to this here blog and also helping post the next contest and the first 'call to entries' on the Art Hive Facebook page. Kudos to you, Chris. Best.Project.Runway.Challenge.Ever. (Episode 10, I Get A Kick Out of Fashion) The designers had to create a costume for the the Rockettes. Nothing but sequins, sparkles, fringe and glitz. Seriously, I was in heaven. Best moment...when judge Michael Kors told Christopher Palu that he just had a 'Bob Mackie moment'. Died. I.just.died. Okay, let me gather myself. I may need a moment. After a nap/coma/recovering from my excitement over Project Runway...it took me a little time to focus, but I did sit and create a few fashion sketches...just some ideas I had in my head...sillouettes that I love....and some ideas for...maybe...a real-life piece? Now, if you were in my college textile classes, here is something that you know about me. My love for glitter is matched only by my inability to sew from a pattern. It takes me forever to thread my machine...creating a garment? The last time I attempted that it was so bad I turned it into a hand bag. (not a bad handbag, either...) Hand stitch? Sew on sequins and beads by hand, stitch by stitch, bead by bead? You got me. I love that. So...I really do love sketching out garments, but I don't know about the constructing, might have to collaborate with some of my sewin' friends. But one of the pieces in my head isn't so much a garment as it is an accessory...I think I can handle that. So anyway, here are some sketches from the evening, post nap/coma. Busy day tomorrow, better get some sleep! And PS...Tim Gunn...I am still trying to get to NYC...hit me up for that coffee meeting!! I have figured out that I have to draw to stay happy. Or paint. Or do something. Maybe even at least every few hours, once a day might not be enough. And I love to draw with my students. We have a working studio, and it's awesome. And...I am so glad it is Friday. I need...a..minute. Or more. Going to catch up on the Project Runway that I missed last night, take a nap, and get up and make some more art. and...ummmm... I tried to express this to my husband when I clumsily said something to the effect of,' When I am looking at fashion illustration for my Pinterest board I feel like I am eating'. Sounds weird...trying to figure out a way to express how I feel when I look at these images. As soon as I said it I was thinking how weird it sounded...and then he suggested the word 'consume'.
My eyes are consuming these images. I am consumed by these images. Yeah, I like that. Consume. |
