Hey...come to my art show!!

So...I have a solo art show and the opening is next weekend- you should come!  I was scheduled to show in 2016 but received the call from the Harold's curator, Christian, asking me if I was interested in showing in November...the answer was 'YES'!  I have a ton of new work on hand that hasn't been formally 'shown' yet...but I instead I figured, what the heck...I'll just make brand new works for this show.

Gulp.

Wait....whaaaaa?!

I have five paintings pretty much finished...four small ones started....a secret creation in the back of my classroom in progress...and then I had another idea for some special things earlier today...so I am going to have a busy weekend ahead of me- and I can't wait!

Local folks, I sure hope you can make it!

Happy National Cat Day!

Happy National Cat Day to all the felines and feline folks!

...but especially to our kitties, Mackie and Scooter. They seem vaguely interested in when they see me blog and make art so I kind of think that means they support me...and I am grateful for that support.

And I am thankful for their willingness to nap, like...ALL of the time.  Seriously, they really 'get' me!

Yay, cats!!!

I.love.friends.

Seriously, I love our friends here in FL and all around the country...and I LOVE our friends from back home.  All it takes is a few days around the folks that know us best and I feel more grounded...and my attempt to lose my NC accent goes all the way to square one...and I sound like I'm straight outta NC all over again!

But I am, so that's okay!

Second 'back home' visitor for this month, Justin Harris...whom we affectionately refer to as 'Hollywood Harris'...'cause he's a fancy Southern Rockstar in a lil' ol' band called McKenzie's Mill with his brother Ryan and th
eir band mates...super talented guys...check'em out:

I've known the ginger in the backgroundo for about 18 years now...John has known him longer than that...he was one of the best men at our wedding...and still one of our best friends. Love him!

We had a weekend filled with football, tons of junk food (hey, we gotta be good hosts, right?!) and even got a lil' culture in!  Saturday we peeled ourselves up off the couch from our football and chicken wing coma to head out and get some fresh air...and we stopped by Ink and Pistons/Slushbox Gallery for the opening of 'The Kill Room'.

Now, a few thangs about me.  If you have read my blog before or checked out my art I'm pretty cheerful and silly.  I like glitter, gals with big eyes, bright colors, leopard and zebra everything, it's just who I am.  But did you know I am a straight up scaredy cat? For real, I am.  But I wasn't always.  When I was in middle school I LOVED horror movies. I read most everything Stephen King wrote cover to cover multiple times (The Stand, Different Seasons are my favorite...and I once had a nightmare from just LOOKING at the cover of Salem's Lot!)  I don't know when...where...but at some point I just started getting scared and I stopped watching scary movies.  And don't even get me started on zombies...soooo scared of them!!!

So we went to the show, I didn't have a piece in it but I know many of the talented artists featured and John and I knew that Justin would love Ink and Pistons 'cause...well, just 'cause its awesome.  And he did!  We all did!

John dropped Justin off at the airport this morning and I had to say my goodbye's last night...'cause he didn't want to get up at 5:30 to say bye (really?  I wonder why.  Geez!) but before he left Mackie made sure that he picked out some art to take back to Nashville with him!

Justin and Mackie picked out some pieces from my 'Rhythm Series' I created back in September of 2013...which is perfect for our rocker friend.

Rock on, Hollywood Harris.  We love ya!

And now...my art.  Here it is!
You can probably tell which pieces I created after seeing 'The Kill Room' show!

We took pics at the August 'Art Hive Thursday' event at BaCA! They had a photographer on site, and we all got a chance to let loose and take a pic that expressed our inner selves.

For me?  You know I had to accessorize!  I wore a recent statement necklace created from greeting cards!

I couldn't make it to the 'paste up' event but luckily, had access to pics!  To read more about the project click here!
