...just wanted to make it known...again.

  I love to collect costume jewelry, I love creating my own jewelry (hello, DIY) and I love making recycled/upcycled jewelry!

Ok...just wanted to make sure and say it.  Oh, and here is a fun slideshow to show some of my work;

Folks that know me know that I LOVE animals, especially kitties!  With all of the hurricane hoopla I know that the local shelters are overflowing with displaced and abandoned animals...they need homes!

Thinking of adopting?  Here is a very informative article that has several topics for your consideration;

Mackie and Scooter came from an animal shelter back home in NC and having them has really enriched our lives for the past thirteen years.  I hate to think of the animals sitting in the shelter wondering if they will ever have a FURever home!

...miss you granny!

Granny was born in 1930. I searched for a Vogue cover from August 1930 but wanted to work from a photo and not an existing illustration...so I finally chose this cover from 1938.

#TBT ...fashion, fashion, fashion!

I looked through the blog archives and found this lil' gem from September 2012. That was when I first 'discovered' fashion illustration, and it really did change my world. I made over 100 fashion illustrations that first year in addition to my daily art and msc. pieces. In the years past I have continued to revisit fashion as an inspiration in my work, whether it is in a dedicated monthly theme or just additional sketches just 'cause.

Anyway, came across this entry expressing some of that early excitement...and you know what the best part is? I still feel that same way!

#DrawnToFashionJLG ...revisited!

I literally cannot escape my love for fashion.  Even if I am hanging out in my polka dotted pajamas and over sized Chargers shirt-I am thinking about sequins.  Last year I decided to give in to my love for fashion illustration and just make a month of it and now, yup- revisiting that same theme!

'Cause fashions change every year, you know?

Before I re-invent the wheel, here is my blog post/series intro from last September:

...and here is my heART from last September;

These are my works from last September, same theme

Because this year my current feeling is...

SAME.

I knew I wanted to do something with fashion illustration again, but I wasn't sure if I was going to work from one designer's collection...or what.  So I started the month off with looks from my favorite show, Project Runway, because anything involving Tim Gunn (adopt me, Tim!) is ALWAYS a good choice;
Picture
Left, Brandon Kee's winning look and Right, Batani Khalfani's beautiful butterfly-esque garment, definitely a top look in my eyes!

Then I headed over to one of my favorite places, Barnes and Noble, to look for inspiration from a stack of fashion magazines and a big ol' iced coffee.

Just me and my magazines...more accessories on my other account @miss_matchy_matchy

I heard a voice in my head whisper 'treat yo'self' ever so softly...and what's the harm in listening to a voice in your head, right?! (slight twitch and eyes go crazed)  So I bought the September issue of Vogue.  (and two other magazines...hey, there was a hurricane heading towards FL, don't judge)  And I scurried home with my treasures.

Fun fact, I got a free vintage Vogue print bag since I bought that $10 magazine, yay!  Perfect for carrying around my paper, pens and paints for this month!  Ask if you go to B&N if they still have 'em!

Another fun fact- I didn't make it past the first few pages because the vintage vogue covers in the front captured my full attention! Then I started to think...what if I focused on those vintage covers, my interpretation of them anyways, for this take on being 'Drawn to Fashion'?!

So, I made this;

Diary of a girl falling in love with Vogue all over again.

Well...the series just kinda developed from there.  I looked to the original image as the inspiration, obviously, but then put my own spin on it.  I thought it would be fun to incorporate the word 'Vogue' since that was the origin of the image, and I am trying my best to credit the photographers behind each iconic image, as well as the designers.

Here are some more of the first pieces;

I still need to post the new studio pics! I keep forgetting. I bought a chaise lounge for ME....but Scooter didn't get that memo. That's okay, I am just happy he is healthy enough to use the stairs again!

Project Runway Fan Art Winner, again!

Second challenge...they picked my art again!

Picture
...man, how cool is that?  I get to see my artwork basically ON my FAVORITE show ever?!  Yes, please!

The last challenge was the 'Unconventional Materials' challenge, always one of my favorite challenges each season...and truthfully one of the main inspirations for my recycled jewelry pieces!

The winning look by Ayana (Team Name, 'Ballin' on a Budget'...how fun is THAT?!)  featured newspaper and fun brown fringe in the design...so I made sure to add some newspaper in the background of my fashion sketch, and I even used old cassette tape pieces as my version of the 'fringe' on her garment.

...okay, gotta watch Episode 3 again so I can start my sketch!
