Disney Days...

Well...looks like my Disney Series has come to a close...but again, like my two previous themes (Miss Matchy Matchy and The BEE Mine Gals) I reserve the right the revisit and create more pieces at any given time...cause, well...they're #mineZ ...and I can do that if I want.

Figuring out how I would 'number/label' them...that would be another thing...just got a migraine thinking about that...eeek!

I had hoped that I could end the series with a big bang- a trip to Disney- yay!  But...I don't think that will be happening, so my trip to the Disney Store will have to suffice...and all my hours watching Disney movies this month...and all the ugly crying.  (Seriously, have you seen Tangled?!  Sobfest!)

Special thank you to Giselle, Sofie and Mr. Jason for all of your help with this series...you were my 'Resident Disney Experts' and I thank you for all of your feedback! And also my student, Alyssa, who can basically name ever princess and villianess

villainessfrom every Disney movie....wow!  Ya'll were SO helpful!  -JLG

Studio G...and I don't want the 'G' to stand for GRUMP!

...I toyed with the idea of re-linking the 'Art Teacher' blog that I used to have posted here on my site...but I can't separate myself as a teacher and an artist- I am both.  I am a TEACHING ARTIST, I love'em both and I am proud of it.  So...onward with some news from 'Studio G'

Today's fun...MEMES.  Seriously, I think I am going to stop talking and just use memes.  They add some fun, the kids like'em...and I like that.

Plus....(lean in, 'cause I am whispering)...they work.  They really do!

My issue was my kiln.  I don't want my students (or myself) to be frustrated about communicating the 'firing schedule' ('Mrs. G, did ya fire my piece yet?!'...asked in every class throughout the day)

So...feeling like I might be coming off a little 'Grumpy Cat'...I stopped...and I made some MEMES!  Yay!
Art teacher friends, if you have stumbled upon my blog and would like these memes, here are PDF versions for ya!

...and side note... 'member back in February when I posted about that SHAPE Grant?  No?

Here's the link;

Guess what?  I got the grant!  AND...so did my AWESOME colleague, Brent Bludworth!  He will be using his funds towards making portraits for the Memory Project and mine will go towards a bottle cap mural and Chihuly sculpture project.

LWHS ART FOR THE WIN!!! WOOOOO!

Still hard at work on my Disney series...still focusing on the 'bad girls' and creating two a day since this since my last post;
Picture
Wait....what's up with that asterisk on the 25, yo?

Okay, in Muse Land, that strange land filled with daily art, cats and sparkle...there are very strict 'rules' for creating said daily art.  Who made up these rules?  Muah.  Who drives herself insane enforcing them? Yup.

So here's the problem...sometimes LIFE happens...and that happened this week.   A friend lost his brother...someone that we never had the honor to meet, but we knew it was important to show respect for such an amazing person passing...a fire fighter that was diagnosed with brain cancer and died within two weeks...survived by a stunning wife, and unborn child.  If you have a minute, please read about this extraordinary life that had passed,

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/obituaries/article16199030.html

One thing that I know from experience, life is short, family, friendship are important, and if I don't do anything else in this lifetime I will show and give love whenever I can.

So Wednesday we headed down south for the wake.  And I am glad we did.  But we got back late, I had already talked myself into only completing one piece, the 'Noir' piece, since I made those Alice in Wonderland-themed pieces mid-February...after all, those were the whole inspiration for the series.

Long story short, I made peace with just making the one piece and posting my 'Queen of Hearts' piece since I had already made it...but I guess my heart and hands weren't in sync...and I didn't like the 'Noir' piece that I started...so I ended up scrapping it and re-doing in on Thursday.

And this kind of stuff doesn't matter to anyone but me, I suppose.  But I wanted to document the discrepancy.

And I wanted to post about Andy's brother, and share the story of his life, because it is important to do that.

Setting up SHOP.

I am OFFICIALLY selling heART.

Funny thing is...I have been selling art...but...I guess I didn't really put that out there, or make it super easy to make a purchase.  I have been making the art, posting it to my web and to social media...folks contact me, I contact them back and sometimes...sometimes I make a sale.

But my current series has really gotten a positive response, so rather than keep on with business as usual...and since my husband, the MARKETING PROFESSOR was seriously giving me side eye when I explained my selling strategy...I took some time over spring break to scan the first part of my current series (the images below EXCEPT the 'bad girl' pieces...ya gotta wait for those!) and I checked into a few print on demand services...and...well...here are the  ways to get to my work...in case you want to buy prints...or notecard sets...or canvas prints...or throw pillows...or phone cases!
Picture
So...first up, I set up a formal space to sell my work via Fine Art America.

To find me, just search 'Jennifer Love Gironda' and select 'Artist' in the search area...and low and behold, 'me and the girls' will pop up!

Click here to go directly to my FAA page!

I checked into a few different POD (Print on Demand) platforms and after narrowing it down to three when I actually started to sit and upload work, create my account this one seemed to work best for me.  I may or may not use additional platforms, I did set up two other accounts elsewhere...but I am hoping that this one will work.
Picture
Then I added a SHOP page to my web site here.

It links directly to the pieces I have for sale in FAA...but you can get to it right from my site...kinda crazy!

Click here to go directly to my SHOP page right here my site...'cause who wants to spend time scrolling back up, right?

OMG...is this really happening?!

Picture

Lastly... I added a SHOP tab to my Facebook page.

Again, everything is linked to FAA but it's still kinda cool that you can get to my work from my FB page....eeek!  (These kind of things make me excited!)

Click here to go directly to the link via my FB Artist page.

Artist friends...I will be posting in the blog later about this POD experience, this is new for me so I have much to learn!

Picture
Aside from setting up shop (literally...I set up SHOP!) ...I took a turn to the dark side...DISNEY VILLAINS!  Why should the good girls have all the fun, right?  So far I am about three villains in...starting my fourth right after I finish this here post...
Picture
BUT...there's a catch.  See...all month I knew I was going to make this switch, and I have been really looking forward to it...but...but I wasn't sure about the media.  I had planned all along to switch from watercolor and acrylic on white paper to just acrylic on some black paper that I bought.

I wasn't convinced, so for the first piece, the Evil Queen from Snow White, I did..ummmm...both.

And I still couldn't decide...so I did two versions again for Maleficent and again for my (female) version of Captain Hook.
Picture
Okay, so here's the plan for right now.  Each day I will be making villains (for the majority of the rest of the series...not sure how I want to 'end it' yet.) I will also give myself to option to make a piece on black paper in the sub-series I have titled my 'Noir' series.  These pieces will NOT count as separate numbers in my 'Creative Every Day (CED)' numbering...they will just be...like...another piece per day.

And that is just a little bit OCPD of me, I am aware but this is what I have to do to sleep at night.

DISCLAIMER:  By the way, you might have been wondering to yourself, 'Captain Hook is a dude, yo.'  Why, yes. Captain Hook IS a dude.  However...he is also a pirate.  And I am an ECU Pirate...so whenever possible I MUST include Pirates in my art...so...see my reasoning?

Okay, good.  Time to make some more art.  Stop by and SHOP my work!  Yay!

She works hard for the money...

...workin' on some thangs...stay tuned!
She...is me....and workin' hard...that is me also.

Spring Break 2015...sitting in my pink chair in front of my computer, taking on the daunting task of trying to begin to sell my work.  See...making the art, that is the easy part.  I have work.  Mountains of it, in fact.  I can blog about it, post it, somewhat promote it....heck- I can even inventory it, and I do.  But when it comes to selling...this is an area that I need to improve.  I don't worry about selling, I make the work, I post it and if folks like it  and contact me, then  I sell it.

And that works... ummm...kinda.

But dealing with only originals has it's downfalls.  Only one person can have the work, and in only one format. Also...I have to prep it for shipping...then actually go and ship it.  I would rather spend the time making the art.

So...for the past 48 hours I have been searching for some on-line formats for selling my work, and I think I have narrowed it down....so wish me LUCK...I need it!
...and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Many people have shared my excitement about my latest series, inspired by the lovely ladies of Disney, thank you so much for the great response! I usually just sell originals, but I am working on some prints and other gift items and hope to be posting info/links about this soon (yay for Spring Break!) In the meantime, I made an additional album in my gallery for all of the lil' squared off versions of my work with quotes and also created a seperate folder on my FB Art page.  Feel free to share, but if you would be so kind as to link it back to either my web site, or FB artist page... or even my Instagram. Proud to be a participant in the 2015 Square Show!  This is my third time participating.  Its a really fun show to be a part of, not only because of the AWESOME venue but also because of the variety of talented artists that I am sharing wall space with.  There is no theme, just some size specs...oh year, and the work has to be SQUARE.

Jess and I participated in this show together back in 2012, and it's a bit of a haul from Boynton Beach to Lauderhill but I keep going back.
Here are a few pics from past square shows as well as this one.  Get on down there to see it!!!

Ain't no time for LYME!

My artist friend Erin has Lyme disease...and it is kinda awful.  I REALLY admire her...so much so that I created a piece of art inspired by her back in May 2014;

http://www.jenniferlovegironda.com/blog/may-artwalk-and-another-piece-of-fanart

Despite her illness, which steals ALL of her energy...this lil' lady PRODUCES.  I mean...sister makes some heART.  I love her work, she is talented...but she is also super sweet...and I like sweet folk.

I saw that she was participating in the 'Take a Bite Out of Lyme' social media campaign and I knew I wanted to support her...so I did what I do best- I made some angels and dropped them off at her house!  She will be giving the angels away as she sees fit, the goal is to spread some hope and love...AND awareness about this disease.

Keep fighting you wonderful warrior woman!! Looking forward to our art/glitter play date!
