Busy Bee- that's me!  I have had a couple of 'secret projects' that I wasn't able to post- until now!  Not going to write a ton...actually feeling a little run down and my bed is lookin' pretty awesome right about now...but I made some stuff...here it is! -JLG

.
..wish I could BEE there...

Our lil' niece Gemma turned 2! John and I couldn't be there for the party, but we sent her presents with Aunt Nancy...and I sent some decorations for the BEE-themed event!

Another BIG event- my girl Jessie's baby shower! She and her husband are expecting baby Luke in March and this past Saturday hosted an 'out of this world' baby shower at their house for family and friends. Her best friend Sof enlisted me to help make some of the signs and grandparent pins...and the big ol' chalkboard photo backdrop. I wasn't feeling well so I didn't go around and take pics of everything in place like I normally would...I didn't even get to take a pic in front of the backdrop...oh well...but many folks did :)

Also on Saturday- my recycled jewelry was in a fashion show!

I collaborated with local designer Chavela Redd Grayson for the closing event at Continuum West Palm Beach- the 'Melange to Go Pedestal Fashion Show & Body Painting Competition. Chavela made the clothes- I made the recycled accessories! I overdid it a bit and got a little run down (go figure) and didn’t make it to the runway event- but THANK GOODNESS for Adriano Ficarelli, an amazing local photographer! I contacted him earlier and he sent me these photos of my pieces with Chavela’s garments last night. Wish I could have been there to see them in person…but…his images are the next best thing I reckon!

Special THANK YOU to Trina Slade-Burkes for thinking to pair me with Chavela, I gotta say, I think it was a good match! Thank you Miss Chavela for your inspiring designs...and those models- gorgeous!!!! And of course to Adriano for sharing his photos with me so that I can share them now with YOU

...and now, time to sleep...I am sure that this coming week will be another busy one!

Starting off a brand new series each month can be a little daunting for me...starting off the first piece in a new series in a brand new YEAR?  Now that is next level intense...for me anyway.

Looking back on my work from 2012-2016, I am most excited when I see a cohesion in my work from month to month.  I know that some months I went off on a tangent because I wanted to try something new (like the #BelleJarJLG series)...or wanted to work on a skill (like my #LegendaryMenMusicJLG series)...and I know what my reasons are for works that disrupt the overall style of the work when viewed as an entire year, or as the whole five years...

That being said, I think for this coming year I want to try to keep my work in the same style.  I reserve the right to change my mind about this, but right now I am thinking long term- of that overall body of work a year from now.  I really enjoy creating my 'girl', so I would like to try and stick with that or something very similiar throughout the year, within each monthly series.  I am thinking that I can break out and explore any other themes/styles in the various side projects that I alway seem to give myself.  Again- I might change my mind...we'll see.

It was tough to decide where to start 2017.  When I was creating my on-line document showing all of my daily work I kept hearing that 'Calendar Girl' song in my head;

I had never watched this performance...but when I did, it made me think of my favorite scene from Grease 2;

With the theme of 'Calendar Girl', I made the first two pieces while John and I were in Daytona for New Year's.  The first piece was all about NYE shenigans...the second about all those resolutions...then on to the third, where I was thinking about my own continued resolution/goal to make art every day...

Side note, piece #3 almost made me go with an entirely different (but really fun!) theme...but after consulting with my girlfriends we agreed to save that theme for later.

So I moved onto February, and I created two pieces to represent Valentine's Day.

And then I stopped myself.  'Oh my- I have NO plan'.

So this morning I printed a blank calendar and started writing all the months with their different holidays and observances, thinking which ones I would want to illustrate.  Then I printed a blank calendar filled in the first few, then started from the end of the month and worked backwards.  I am a little frustrated with myself that I didn't do this earlier because I will actually be back tracking to add one or two to 'January' and then go back to February...but I am going to try to just get over it.  (and I may switch their physical order/location in the on-line gallery and album just to calm my nerves...'cause I am crazy like that)

Long story short...the new theme is #CalendarGirlsJLG ...and here are the first five pieces!

2012-2016 wrap up

I didn't have this post (and the linked document) ready for January 1st as planned.
Picture
And I still haven't posted the info about my January 2017 series that I have already started...but I will...and you will see why I waited, but I will wait until later tonight or even tomorrow for that.  (typical Jenny self-imposed internal struggle)

However, it is January 5th and today is the day that I have gigantic document ready to share.  The document?  Well, it is pretty much all of the work I have created during my 1,827 consecutive days of daily making art- and then some.  (definitely still missing some images, but I am just going to keep it moving.)

 On January 1, 2012 I decided I wanted to make more time for my art...and on December 31, 2016 I completed that goal. I could say so much more, and I want to...but I am also pretty exhausted from working on this beast.  I felt that it was important to have all of the images in one spot in some catalog-type format,  even if I am the only one that sees it, or even cares.

Typos?  Yeah, probably.  Spacing issues and what-not...could be.  I did my best, may correct it later...just had to get this done before getting too deep into another year of daily art.

You'll see why...
