Alright...getting more into this mixed media thang...it's pretty fun!

So...just finished my big painting on the agenda now, my next commission. Here is what I have done so far. (see slideshow below) 'Bout to take a break and watch tv with the husband/work on my CEDs...might work on this some more later...if not, it will be finished by the end of the week, maybe earlier! So...most of my day was a wash with doctor's appointments. Nothing wrong, just dentist and eye appointments. I don't mind waiting as much anymore now that I keep my sketchbook with me, drawing makes the time go by so much faster. So...below are my pics from around 5pm showing the projects for the evening...just some CED's that I have started and need to finish up, and then that big ol' painting that has been torturing me on a daily basis. It is self-imposed, just me feeling guilty for not finishing it sooner. But sometimes...well, sometimes art has to wait... ...so about an hour and a half went by and then... ...and I will probably post again later after I work on my CEDs and the big portrait...but for now, it's a small celebration here at casa de Gironda : )
Feelin' pretty tired...just in case I don't do any more work tonight, here is the update... I decided it was time I came to some resolution on this large painting (left) so I started working on it late this afternoon and stopped around 10pm. I added more black outline...I love black outline...makes me think of stained glass...and I pushed the faces back by adding some brown wash over the surface, they just seemed to stand out too much, I wanted them to flow a little more with the tree, to be a little more hidden. I want to add some addition black line work, and small strokes of color. And some small glints of gold. I was pinning images to my Pinterest Boards earlier, focusing on the 'Inspiration' board. I am still deciding how I will use this tool in my work, for now it seems to be a good way to gather images together in one place, to save physical space and also paper. The images I pinned today were mostly artists who I think are awesome, mostly mixed media artists since that is my focus for this month. This is a whole different world for me, so these visuals really help to give me ideas. And of course I had to pin some of my influences from art history, such as Gustav Klimt and Alphonse Mucha. I found this AMAZING close-up of Klimt's piece entitled, Water Serpents (1904-1907) and fell in love with the gold line work...and the fact that it is actually slightly raised from the surface. Hmmmmmm.... that could be an idea for my large painting I am working on... Have paper will draw! ...other projects for this week;
...commission #1...in the mail and en route to Sterling, VA! CED # 67...in progress...not going to worry about trying to finish that tonight, going to get some rest.
...no time to think of anything witty or interesting...I am tired. So...after hanging some student work in Stuart, working out, taking a mini-nap and a trip to Michael's...I didn't start working til about 9pm. I just stopped and cleaned up a little after 12am. The picture to the left shows my work at the start and end of my work session. Alot can change in 3 hours! CED #66...all done...trying to tie in the ANE theme for this month...Poe Commission (on easel)...still not resolved. Just about ready, though. I feel like I was overworking it so I made myself stop. My client wanted more of the darker blues and liked the portraits that I have displayed behind my easel...I put those up so I could look at them and find direction in this commission. I feel like the colors are more what he wanted now, and the actual brushstrokes and style are getting a little closer to the pieces he liked...tomorrow, gotta add details to face, add the Cambodian details from the pictures he sent me and just pull it all together. Goal- mail this off tomorrow! Current goal...go to SLEEP! (let's be realistic...that ain't happenin', folks) Not feeling good. Ugh. I have been working on two things since I woke up from my usual afterschool nap; finishing at least one full day of sketch assignments and my CED #65. Happy to report, both are done. ('I' day kids, your sketches are graded and you will get them back on Wednesday!) Now I can spend a few moments on a little project/web-site/art movement that I am working on that will be more public in about a week...
So, I am back. Awesome weekend in Orlando, now...back to work. I just posted my CEDs for March 1-4th. Having some fun with the idea of working with mixed media, going to start off with some collage elements and see where it goes. I am thinking that I will start each one off with either a figurative drawing or painting, and then move on from there. The first four pieces incorporate detail pencil shading, pen, watercolor, collage and some acrylic wash. |
