I just wanted to share...today during our shared 'free draw' time...I completed my 10 minute drawing. My students like it when i draw with them, and I haven't sat down and did a drawing with them in a little while...and I have noticed the void. So today- we drew. They were busy with their last minute details, as their drawings are due on Fridays...and me, well, I set the timer for 10 minutes and started to draw. The best way to enjoy Friday, drawing with my students...listening to their papers rustling, pencils being sharpened and scratching marks onto their paper...and the sounds of my own mark-making and the hum of the document camera.
And then...a faint countdown. 'Mrs. G, it's been three minutes....five minutes...' And then, so unexpected, a muffled countdown, '10-9-8...' as I finished the last 10 seconds of drawing and even a few claps when the drawing was done. Yep, that's how I feel about art, too. Excitement, anticipation, urgency...and when I finish working myself or see an amazing work of art by another artist...I want to clap, too. And I do. Awesome.
