Well, the gigs up.  I want to be Iris Apfel when I grow up.  I reckon it's about time everyone knew.

I figured for the 'last piece' in the series I should give a nod to some inspirational source for Miss Matchy Matchy and Jewel, and all accessory-lovin' folks out there.

So naturally I chose Iris, one of my personal fashion icons. Fabulous.  Colorful.  Playful. Eclectic. These are some words to describe her.  One of the biggest things that makes Iris one of my 'fashion rock stars' is her love and ability to accessorize.

Which is what this whole serious is about...a gal and her love of accessories.
While I was looking up images of Iris to work from I came across so many of her quotes that were inspirational to me...now, you probably know this one...my favorite...
  • “More is more and less is a bore.”
Yeah, she did say that, and I love it...but she had many, many more 'gems' so I felt compelled to include some here  on my blog...and I gotta be honest, my wheels are spinning at frightening speeds with ideas based on Iris Apfel and what she has to say about fashion...
  •  “You have to look in the mirror and see yourself. If it feels good, then I know it’s for me. I don’t dress to be stared at, I dress for myself.”
  •  “What’s my style is not your style, and I don’t see how you can define it. It’s something that expresses who you are in your own way.”
  • “I never had a fondness for gems or the extravagance of Harry Winston or Van Cleef & Arpels. I’ve always liked the more flamboyant, imaginative things. I lusted after costume jewelry. My husband was a very lucky man.”
  • “My mother knew if you bought a couple of really good architectural outfits andput your money into accessories, you could create a million different looks. She taught that to me, which I think was invaluable.”
  • "If you don’t learn constantly, you don’t grow and you will wither. Too many people wither on the vine. Sure, it gets a little harder as you get older, but new experiences and new challenges keep it fresh."
  • “I think jewelry can change an outfit more than anything else. Transformation, punch, individuality: One or all of the above are why you should wear jewelry.”
  • "These are things I love, things I've worn. I get more compliments on accessories than anything else. I think they're kind of like herbs and spices. They give zest and zing to an outfit."
  •  "If there was a choice on spending a lot of money on accessories or dress, I always chose accessories. I think jewelry can change an outfit more than anything else."
  • “If you put something together and it doesn’t look so good, the fashion police are not going to come a take you away. And if they do, you might have some fun in jail.”
  • "Just keep in mind I’m the world’s oldest living teenager."

And here is my daily art, inspired by the one and only Iris Apfel.  I put her in a pair of emerald green palazzo pants with sequinned embellishments and a black feather coat, also with some sequin accents.  Under the coat she is wearing a black turtle neck with a turquoise necklace and a gold necklace and has a large jeweled brooch on her shoulder. I included her signature owl-eye glasses, too.

Now, I tried to find out- does Iris have a pet?  I couldn't find anything about a pet...but I really wanted her to have a cat...cause Miss Matchy Matchy and Jewel both have a cat...and I have cats...and cats are awesome.

So I gave her a mini-leopard and called it a day.

Okay...here's the thing.  I don't know if I can part with this series.  I...just...I can't.  I love it too much.  So I don't know the details, but there will be more pieces.  I don't know how many...might not be every day...but...I have to make more.  I have to.

Besides finishing up my 'last piece' in the series (again...NOT the last piece!) I also made a trip down to Hollywood  to handle some art-related business.  Sharon over at Gallery 2014 wanted me to make sure my February '13 and '14 pieces were good to go since they are perfect for Valentine's Day.  (so stop by Gallery 2014 and check them out...heck, buy'em!)

I also picked up my work from Sally over at SMASH Beauty Lounge...waiting to see if the pieces might be relocated to a new location...in the meantime I have a bunch of eye paintings and a dress form wearing a wedding dress made of recycled Art Hive Magazines in my car.

No big deal.
