Hey...that's my art!
I already wrote about the new Art Hive, right?
I think I did. I was probably delirious, I am pretty sure I posted something about it when I was sick last week and running a fever. Every time I see the cover, it just makes me so happy. I still can't believe Jessie and Angela picked this piece for the cover, it was a total surprise. Jessie texted me a pic of her computer screen as she was working on the cover when I was judging NHSCC in Orlando...I was at the judges meeting and when I saw it...completely floored. I couldn't (and still can't) believe it.
The piece they chose is from (go figure) one of my many 'side projects. In July 2012, I was working with my 'round' series which was heavily influenced by Byzantine iconography and embellishment...somewhere in the midst of gluing crystals down...all that gold paint and bling made me think about Gustav Klimt, one of my favorite artists of all time...and, well...I got distracted and made some pieces. This was one of them (Klimt 1). Art Hive was still in the making, I was so inspired (and still am!) by my friend Jessie's drive and commitment to making her dream a reality...so I made this piece. A gal with a beehive hairdo (literally), looking at the viewer straight on as if to say, 'bring it. I'm going to make this happen'. And I added some bees..gold paint...crystals...and lot's of love. I presented the piece to my friend and thought that was the end of it... til I saw it on the cover in that text message.
And as I am writing this...I am realizing that I need to make something special for Angela, the other 'queen bee' that made Art Hive a reality...hmmmmm....gonna have to think on that. It has to be something special...
Gotta wrap this up...but I included some in-progress pics from CED13-72. These are basically the same pics from instagram, but I like seeing 'em side by side. I randomly pulled out one of the 'pre-collaged' papers I made yesterday...looked at it for a bit til I saw the figure in it...and then started sketching. And, well...here is what I came up with;
