May 2018... #WeddingBellesJLG series wrap up

6/4/2018

I'll go ahead and say it now.  I lied.  This ain't no 'series wrap up'.

There is NO WAY that I will not be revisiting this theme- it was SO MUCH FUN!!!

That being said...I am behind in posting my June series, right now it is a bunch of experiements and I hope to be brave enough to post them in full tomorrow...on account of it's something brand new to me so I am like, waaaaaaay outside of my comfort zone and kinda freaking out.

But back to those ol' wedding belles!  I seriously LOVED this series.  I mean, some of the pieces I enjoyed more that others, but just looking at and sketching wedding gowns was something I really enjoyed.  I think that the toned paper was a good choice for the works, I really like how the white paint and pencil looks on that tan background.

But there were a few pieces that stand out for me...

Lovin' me some Liris.

In my previous post I wrote about being excited to see one of my favorite Project Runway models featured in a bridal campaign- the beautiful Liris Crosse.  Well...I was so excited that I went back and drew two more pics of her as 'extra' pieces...just because!

...and Liris saw the pieces and I will be mailing those out to her, hoping she shares a pic when she gets 'em.  If she does I will post it!

Goin' GLOBAL

At the end of my series I started thinking about bridal gowns from different cultures...and that led me down a internet rabbit hole.  I found waaaaaaay too much.  I narrowed it down a bit and just jumped in and started drawing.

Lucky for me my good friend Siddhi was only a text away to give me some leads on designers. I checked out designers she told me about from India, and then found even more...next thing I know I was immediately swooning over all the details, and of course the SPARKLE.  Gahhhhh.   I have already requested that she renew her vows so I can get all gussied up and see this beauty first hand.  (oh, and she also did a traditional american wedding, so she had a second WHITE gorgeous dress...'cause she is fancy like that!)

Here is my girl Siddhi with her husband Chris, and the three pieces I created based off Indian designers; (from Top to bottom) Ritu Kumar, Tarun Tahiliani and House of Kotwara

And then I was thinking...what about a wedding dress created by an African designer?

I found WAAAAY too many inspiring gowns- finally decided on this one...but I feel like this will definitely be a starting point when i revisit the series;

Annnnd then I thought, let me go back and check out more Asian designers...

Yup, another couple of hours drooling over rich embroidered fabrics.  I finally just picked a gown BY Guo Pei and forced myself to end my search...for now...

Okay...enough already, here is my daily work, and some extra pieces 'cause I really LOVED this theme!
