New Series for October!

October 2014 is going to be all about El Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead)!!  

I knew I wanted to do something that would kind of fit Halloween, but I didn't know if I wanted to repeat my 'Halloween' series from last October so I chose to use the DOD theme, since I know that there will be plenty of skeletons and fun stuff to reference this month.

Make no mistake, DOD is NOT Halloween...I know that, but the timing hit about the same weekend so I figure it works.

Plus...the hand painted 'La Catrina' faces are right up my alley!

Now, I have tried my hand at some similar art.  I created a 'Cinco de Mayo' gal back in May of 2012, I think that was the first Latina-inspired piece that I created.  Later I would revamp a piece from another 2012 series with the DOD-style face paint.  Last October I had one piece that hinted at a skeleton/regular face combo...and ya'll know about my Frida series this past October.

You did know about that already, right?

Ok, true story:

I had been thinking about doing this series for a while, probably since sometime when I was in the middle of my Frida series. Sometime in the last days of the September series, when I had made up my mind to do this collection a commercial came on for the Disney 'Book of Life' movie.  I had no idea about the movie...and you'll never guess the theme...

Yep, El Dia de los Muertos!  You just can't make this stuff up!  

...and just like that, I am off!  Creating a new series, with a brand new theme.  Right now I am still working with Prismacolor Pencils and Markers on toned paper, but just to add something new I am also including a little scrap of a face, so far that has been my starting point for the pieces

And, per usual, I have no idea where this series will go and I couldn't be more excited!  Stay tuned!
