What's black and white...

So I was working on my daily piece on Monday during my lunch...and I decided it was time to start adding some more art materials...the idea being to gradually build each week and see what happens at the end of the month but staying within the 'black and white' theme.  I spotted some newspaper near my desk at school and...since I already started drawing the figure I used tracing paper to get the shapes marked off, then as a pattern to cut out the newspaper.

I forgot to mention that the kids were testing in my afternoon art classes, so I had several small groups, so we all chilled out and had some time to free draw.  I love drawing with my students.  They even helped me make some decisions on where to add newspaper for CED13-70.  (Thanks for the advice, guys!)

I stuck with the same concept for today's piece, CED13-71, this time I cut and glued a newspaper shape first and used that to determine the figure, kind of working backwards from my approach yesterday. I even prepped several backgrounds for the rest of this week, arbitrarily cutting and gluing the newspaper shapes down...not really trying to make anything out of it, or putting any thought into it.  I want to pull out the paper each day and let the image that is already there 'inform' me of where to take the drawing.

At least, that's the plan.

Sometimes, if I finish my daily piece early...I don't know what to do with myself.  Sometimes...it just makes me feel like I should make another piece, or two more pieces- or ten.  That is how I felt today.  I started two sketches based on an editorial in Harper's Bazaar UK (Feb 2013), the page was a focus on tailoring and the models were wearing two bold suits by Gucci. I really liked the shapes, the combination of the enlongated figures and long, lean lines with the gathering at the shoulders and flared sleeves...so I sketched 'em out.  I got my first later of color on both drawings while John and I watched one of our 'shows', then headed to the gym.  I thought about finishing them tonight, but decided to post my latest works and update the blog instead.

So I will finish those tomorrow.

And now...I sleep!
